Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board

The Bord Bia Meat Processor Quality Assurance Scheme ensures that all meat is processed and packed to the highest standards before reaching the consumer, assuring quality at each stage of the ‘farm to fork’ production chain.

Through MPQAS, several essential requirements need to be met for meat plants covering both product and process relating to:

  • Cleaning, Hygiene & HACCP Based Procedures
  • Animal Welfare
  • Storage, Handling & Transport
  • Product Identification / Traceability, Reconciliation & Recall
  • Waste Disposal
  • Final Product Dispatch

TRACEABILITY

At Oliver Carty & Family we place a major emphasis on a robust traceability system which satisfies the needs of our customers.

We use IdentiGen’s DNA TraceBack system for boars. Developed because of potential weaknesses in paper based traceability systems, IdentiGen’s DNA TraceBack tags all Irish breeding boars.

Oliver Carty & Family is the first processor in Ireland to use the DNA Traceback on pig meat, which not only sets us apart from our competitors but also gives our customers total peace of mind.

This state-of-the art system is then used to generate a DNA-ID – a unique code which identifies the animal, its offspring and subsequently all produce from these animals.

The programme now forms part of the Bord Bia quality assurance programme, and both Bord Bia and IFA collect and test samples from products on a monthly basis to ensure compliance with country of origin labelling.

Our success speaks for itself.

So too do the awards that we’re proud to have picked up over the years.
